The Lorax is a great story to get out there in front of as many eyes as possible. That's why the deniers hate it so.

I just pray that it is better than the hideous version of The Cat In The Hat that came out not so long ago.

I'm so sick of this knuckle-dragging idiocy.

I'm beginning to think a good number of these right wing fundie types secretly admire the Saudis and their morality police. I'm sure they'd love it if we could have our own Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. We could put Bryan Fischer in charge. Wouldn't that be grand? //

I'm sure this will come as no surprise, but 99% of the Saudis I've met positively loathe the religious police with every fiber of their being. Especially young people, teenagers. They want to go hang out at the mall, like teens everywhere, and they end up getting dragged into some mutawwa's office where they're accused of immoral behavior, interrogated, and their parents called to come get them. They don't get in trouble because the parents have been there, done that and know damned well what the stupid game is.

Their repression only makes things worse—it's like telling someone, "Okay, I'll give you one million dollars under one condition: Don't think about pink elephants." So, yeah, from then on ALL you can think about is pink elephants.

They used to have something similar but more politically motivated. It was called the House Un-American Activities Committee.

We are in a really weird situation. It used to be that the "Right," the conservatives, were the Establishment. The Left and especially the youth rebelled against the Establishment. But then many 60's ideas became embedded in our culture during the 70's...I mean I grew up watching Sesame Street (which also taught things like caring for the environment and helping others), and later reading MAD and Harvard Lampoon, listening to rock'n'roll, and watching Saturday Night Live. So in a sense many aspects of the "Left" became part of the "Establishment."

Now, we have "conservatives" who grew up in this same culture and environment who are in rebellion against it. And they reject some things that Conservatives in the past used to support wholeheartedly, like science and public education, because they perceive these things as being part of the "Establishment Left."

Brought to you by the brain trust that indignantly complained that the Teletubbies were gay and that Sesame Street promotes socialism.

But perhaps conservative pundits know what they're talking about ... since most of them are mindless puppets and cartoonish caricatures
